The signaling packets on the D channel are the same for BRI and PRI In the early days of defining the interfaces, an argument arose about whether to grant direct access to the signaling system by the customers As we indicated, SS7 is the mechanism for managing the network and it s logical to simply let the D channel use SS7 packets Unfortunately, the more paranoid faction won the argument, so the D channel signaling packets require a small amount of conversion to change them from D channel signaling packets to SS7 packets This is OK, because the D channel link layer frame is standard HDLC (LAP D, Link access protocol for the D channel), which can carry the packets on the D channel whether they are signaling packets or X25 packets Figure 9-8 shows a D channel packet If it has the look of an X25 packet, it is not by accident Since both X25 and signaling packets are handled (time interleaved) on the D channel, it was thought that a protocol discriminatory byte would be a good idea just in case the packet was received by the wrong entity (The link layer protocol makes this virtually impossible anyway, but just in case ) The protocol discriminator byte pattern never occurs in X25 and would be immediately recognized as an illegal packet and discarded

The initial setup and administration of the PerformancePoint Server 2007 Planning Server, or just Planning Server for short, is done through the Planning Administration Console This is a web-based administration console that can be used to administer multiple Planning Servers In the examples used throughout this chapter, the name of the server hosting the Planning module is PerfPointServer To access the Planning Administration Console, the developer would open Internet Explorer and go to the web site http://<Server Name>:46788/ In our example, the web site would be http://perfpointserver:46788/, as shown in Figure 7-1 The port number, 46788, is the default TCP port for the Planning Administration Console The default port number can be changed by going to the properties of the PPSPlanningAdminConsole web site within the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager The left pane of the main administration console web site contains links to various aspects of server administration The first link, Connection, provides a simple page for making a connection to the Planning Server This link is open by default when the developer connects to the Planning Administration Console web site In the Location textbox, the user would enter http://<Server Name>:46787/, which in our case will be http://PerfPointServer:46787/ Please note that the TCP port number is 46787, which is the default port number for PerformancePoint ServerPlanningWebServices As mentioned earlier, one of the advantages of a web-based administration console is that several Planning Servers can be administered from the same web

The frequency bands for R/C systems are established by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations Specific bands of the radio spectrum are allocated for use by R/C hobbyists, and radio manufacturers have standardized specific frequencies inside these bands for use by hobby radios Channel number in a radio refers to a specific frequency within the allowed range of the frequency band The channel number should not be confused with the number of servo channels the radio set can control Frequency bandwidth allocation varies by country; a radio operating on a legal frequency in the United States will not be legal for use in the United Kingdom, and vice versa

Figure 9-8: D channel packet The call reference value is essentially a random number chosen to identify a particular call Since there could be many (479) calls in progress at once, you might need more than a fixed length value (In order to prevent confusion about which call is doing what, you don t want to reuse those numbers too quickly) All signaling packets associated with a given call will have the same call reference value

The message type indicates the format of the packet The setup message, for example, would have the called and calling telephone numbers in the information elements field The call-clearing message would have a single-byte cause code in the information element field Of course, all of this wonderful capability isn t of much value if the service provider hasn t implemented the backroom functions to enable these features from the customer s The carriers have simply implemented that subset that they individually think that they can sell It should come as no surprise that the offerings vary widely and all features are not generally compatible across carriers

The 27-MHz radio band is usually used for small R/C toy cars, planes, and tanks This frequency band crosses into the lower channels on the citizens band (CB) radio frequencies, so there is a chance of interference by CB radio operators Both ground and aircraft vehicles are allowed to use the 27-MHz radio frequency band, which is divided into six separate channels The first channel operates on 26995 MHz, and each of the other channels are spaced every 005 MHz Radio sets for the 27-MHz band are available in both amplitude modulation (AM) and frequency modulation (FM) configurations, and are usually low power and limited to two or three channels Although they can be used for combat robots, this is
